The Barbados Jewish Community reports with deep sadness the passing of long-time member Leah Gilbert on April 24th, 2020. (30 Nisan 5780)
Leah was born in Barbados on February 4th, 1946. Her parents, Oscar & Edna Pillersdorf, were founding members of the Barbados Jewish Community. Leah was a pillar of our community, an incredible lady.
Leah and Benny have always been dedicated to the preservation of Judaism in Barbados. Leah served on the Executive Committee throughout her life and was always willing to organize celebrations, Oneg Shabbats and to contribute generously in every way possible. All of us will miss her vibrant personality, energy and dedication.
The BJC extends our deepest condolences to Benny, her husband of 54 years, her son’s Ian and Eli, and their families, her sister Rachelle Weisman and her family, as well as her many cousins.
