Happy Hanukkah everyone! Hanukkah is a time of year that brings back so many fun childhood memories. When I was a child our family would go to my Aunt Inge and Uncle Abe’s house. My Uncle Abe was the life of the party, as my cousins, my brother and I would await him throwing gelt into the air. We scrambled to gather up the most gelt in order to play our dreidel/gambling game while devouring latkes. It is funny how memories become attached to smells and tastes. Hanukkah for me is simply not Hanukkah without potato latkes. Enjoy this new Latke recipe that I found. Also check out this fun Hanukkah parody using Ariana Grande songs.
For so many years our small, ageing community has struggled to keep Judaism alive in Barbados. With the Barbados COVID One Year’s Visitor Stamp, we are seeing the influx of incredibly diverse and interesting people arriving at our shores including many Jewish families with young children. We welcome you all with open arms. We would love to see Jewish education classes, more social gatherings. Please feel free to contact us with your ideas and help us to create a vibrant environment for you and your families.
We are overjoyed at the response to our upcoming Hanukkah party. Unfortunately we have reached our limit of 80 people. If you have not yet sent in your RSVP, we are unable to hold more people due to our COVID protocols, however, please join us for services tomorrow evening for the second night of Hanukkah at Nidhe Israel Synagogue. Please note that all COVID protocols will be observed so please bring your face masks. We will continue our ZOOM services for those people unable to attend in person.
