President’s Message – May 6

Dear all,

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Bourque on Sunday May 1st. He was the husband of Mary-Ellen Bourque and father of Shari. Robert was a philanthropist of Barbado and a good friend of the Barbados Jewish community for many years. We extend our deepest condolences to Mary Ellen and her family. May his light continue to shine through their memories. Please see the link below to the ZOOM funeral scheduled for tomorrow, May 6th at 4:00pm.

Today is “Yom Ha’atzma’ut, Israeli Independence Day. It commemorates the declaration of independence of Israel in 1948 and is the official national holiday of the state of Israel.  We will hold a commemorative Shabbat Service tomorrow, Friday, May 6th. At the end of the service (7:15 pm) the Israeli Ambassador to Barbados, His Excellency, Mr. Itai Bardov, will address our community virtually.
The Shabbat Service will conclude with a cocktail reception for those attending in person sponsored by Scott Oran, The Honorary Consul of Israel to Barbados, and his family. Please confirm if you will be attending in person by emailing

Don’t forget to count the Omer each evening at sundown. Here is a great app to help you remember each day with a special meditation.
