Barbados Jewish Community

President’s Message – November 13

Shabbat Shalom!

The word for the week:

Yesterday our small community joined together for the funeral of our oldest living member, Mrs. Ellen Steinbok, who died on November 10th at the age of 94. Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire Steinbok family.

It is during a time like this that we experience the true sanctity of “community spirit”.  Each of us is called upon to lend our support to make up a minyan and to comfort the family by sitting Shiva and saying prayers together. Our numbers may be small, but our connection to one another and Judaism joins our hearts in a way that is incredibly powerful. I feel truly blessed to be a part of this very special community.

Next week is our first Friday night service back at Nidhe Israel Synagogue. Please note that all COVID-19 protocols will be observed so please bring your face masks.  For those people unable to attend in person we will continue our ZOOM services, which will originate from the downtown sanctuary.

If you would like to host an Oneg Shabbat for one of the upcoming in person services please contact areloran@gmail.com.
