Barbados Jewish Community

Virtual Tour

Join us for a one-hour online virtual tour of Jewish Barbados

Personally led and narrated by a member of the local community, the tour includes a visit to the restored Nidhe Israel synagogue (1654), its adjacent cemeteries, and the recently discovered Mikvah (ritual bath). Learn how a group of Sephardic Jews, fleeing the Portuguese Inquisition in Brazil, made their way to Barbados and secured the protection of Oliver Cromwell, the Protestant leader of England.

Monthly Public Tour

The tour is offered to the general public on the first Tuesday of every month at 11:00am AST (Atlantic Standard Time). A minimum donation of USD$18 per person is requested (100% goes towards maintenance of the Nidhe Israel complex in Bridgetown).  To reserve a space, please email bjc@jewishbarbados.org. We will reply with a Zoom link to access the tour.

Private Group Tours

We’re happy to arrange private tours for groups of ten or more. This is an ideal program for any Jewish-oriented group: adult education, Sisterhood, Hebrew High School, or any other synagogue or communal setting. Please email us at bjc@jewishbarbados.org to arrange a date/time.
